Overview
MailTracker Kill is a browser extension that blocks email open-tracking beacons and shows which vendor attempted to track you inside Gmail and Outlook on the web. We do not operate a backend that receives your email content.
Data collection
No analytics, telemetry, advertising IDs, or user accounts. We do not upload message bodies or headers.
Local storage
Stored only in chrome.storage.local on your device:
- On/off preferences (block, unwrap links)
- Local detection log (vendor name, host, truncated sample URL, timestamp)
- Local counters for the shame board
How it works
A declarative network ruleset blocks known tracking hosts/paths. Content scripts on webmail pages detect remaining tracker URLs in the DOM, show an on-page chip, and optionally rewrite click-tracking links to their destination.
Permissions
- storage — local preferences and log
- declarativeNetRequest — block tracking beacons
- alarms — refresh toolbar badge periodically
- Host access (webmail only) — Gmail and Outlook web so chips/unwrap can run in the inbox UI
Children
Not directed to children under 13.
